Top Plastic Surgery Procedures

In the past few years, plastic surgery has seen a large boom in popularity thanks to advances in medical technology and technique, allowing for safer, more accurate procedures. Plastic surgery offers patients the chance to feel more comfortable in their own skin, raising their confidence and self-esteem to better tackle the trials and tribulations of the everyday.

Deciding to have plastic surgery is a personal decision, whether it’s a simple wrinkle filler injection or complex body contouring. As you would with any other medical procedure, you should think about the reputation of the facility, the experience of the surgeons and other medical professionals, the quality of care you will receive from all of the staff, and how unexpected complications or difficulties will be dealt with.

The goal of cosmetic surgery is to improve a person’s appearance and, thus, their self-esteem, by changing the way she or he looks. Cosmetic surgery can be performed on any part of the face and body.

The most popular plastic surgery procedures done these days are liposuction, eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, nose jobs, facelifts, and Botox injections.

Liposuction

Liposuction is an option to remove small bulges of fat that diet and exercise don’t budge and to improve your body’s shape. It’s most commonly done on the hips, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and face. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, only fat.

Types of Liposuction

There are a couple of different liposuction techniques:

  • Tumescent liposuction. With this technique, the surgeon will inject a solution into your fatty areas before the fat is removed. It is made up of a saline solution, a mild painkiller, and epinephrine — a drug that contracts your blood vessels. The solution helps the surgeon remove the fat more easily, helps reduce blood loss, and eases pain during and after surgery.
  • Ultrasound-assisted liposuction. With ultrasound-assisted liposuction, ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy the fat, which is then removed from your body.

Eye Lid Surgery

Eyelid lift surgery is done to repair sagging or drooping upper eyelids (ptosis). The surgery is called blepharoplasty. Sagging or drooping eyelids occur with increasing age. Some people are born with droopy eyelids or develop a disease that causes eyelid drooping.

An eyelid surgery is needed when eyelid drooping reduces your vision. You may be asked to have your eye doctor test your vision before you have the surgery. Some people have an eyelid surgery to improve their appearance. This is called cosmetic or elective surgery. The eyelid surgeryt may be done alone or with other surgery such as a browlift or facelift.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery increases or restores breast size using silicone gel implants, saline implants or in some cases, fat transfer. One of the most popular and frequently performed aesthetic surgery procedures, breast augmentation has a long and successful track record in satisfying women who wish to enhance, regain or restore balance to their figures.
Also known as augmentation mammaplasty, breast enlargement or breast implants.

Nose Surgery

If you are unhappy with the shape, size or angle of your nose.
If your nose is too large, too small or not in proportion to the rest of your face.
If you have breathing problems resulting from irregularities inside your nose.
If you have a nasal hump or a nasal tip that is drooping, too elevated or wide.
Also known as rhinoplasty, nose reshaping or nose job.

Face Lifts

A facelift is the most comprehensive approach to treating facial wrinkles and sagging caused by aging. The surgery varies in range from minimally invasive ‘lunchtime lifts’ to more extensive, sophisticated surgery. A facelift removes excess skin, tightens underlying tissues and muscle and redrapes skin on the face and neck. It can correct midface sagging, marionette lines, jowls and a double chin, maintaining its reputation as the ‘gold standard’ for facial rejuvenation. Every year, thousands of people undergo successful facelift surgery and are pleased with the results.

Botox Injections

Botulinum toxin (Botox, onabotulinumtoxinA) is a material that has been known for over a century and used for medical purposes for more than 50 years. Its initial uses were for lazy eye (strabismus), blepharospasm (inability to move the eyelids in certain ways), and wry neck (cervical dystonia). In 2002, it was approved for improving and relaxing frown lines in the area (the glabella) between the eyes on the forehead and has been used successfully in more than over 11 million patients since that time, based on estimates from data supplied by the Allergan Corporation. In 2004, Botox was approved for sweating (hyperhidrosis), and in 2010, Botox was approved for the treatment of migraines.
